Uveitis is the inflammation of the eye's vascular tunic, known as the uvea, which consists of the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. Depending on the affected area, we can distinguish between anterior uveitis, posterior uveitis, or panuveitis.
In most cases, determining the underlying cause of uveitis requires a comprehensive diagnostic protocol. This often includes a general evaluation by your regular veterinarian to rule out systemic diseases, such as Leishmaniasis.
Beyond treating the underlying cause, uveitis treatment may involve administering anti-inflammatories, immunosuppressants, and/or mydriatic-cycloplegics to control inflammation and prevent complications. At IVeM, we have advanced diagnostic tools to effectively diagnose and monitor uveitis in our patients.
