Conventional ophthalmic ultrasound is a non-invasive test where the probe is placed directly on the eyeball. The procedure is performed by applying only anesthetic eye drops and ultrasound gel, and it does not require sedation, as it is painless and well-tolerated by patients.
This technique is primarily used to visualize ocular structures in the posterior segment, such as the posterior capsule of the lens, the vitreous body, the retina, the choroid, and the optic nerve.
