Enamel hypoplasia is a condition characterized by a reduction in the amount of dental enamel, which can lead to dental sensitivity, a higher tendency for dental fractures, and an abnormal appearance with noticeable changes in coloration. It can be caused by various factors, including trauma, inadequate nutrition, genetic components, and other diseases that may have occurred during puppyhood. This condition promotes the accumulation of bacterial plaque, increasing the risk of periodontal disease.
It’s essential to perform dental X-rays to assess the consequences of this condition. Treatment, in cases where there is no pulp involvement, includes sealing the dentinal tubules with a dentin adhesive. Reconstruction can be done using composite material.
Early detection of this condition is crucial to prevent pulp involvement.
